What is TCMPC?

As educators, we’re always looking for ways to streamline planning, align instruction to standards, and support student learning with clarity and consistency. That’s where the Texas Curriculum Management Program Cooperative, or TCMPC, comes in. What is TCMPC? It’s a collaborative effort designed by educators, for educators to ensure high-quality, standards-based instruction across Texas classrooms. In this article, we’ll look at what TCMPC is and how it supports teaching and learning.

Overview of TCMPC.

How does TCMPC help educators?

The TCMPC is a shared service initiative composed of the 20 Education Service Centers (ESCs) across Texas. Together, they manage and maintain the TEKS Resource System (TEKS RS).

TEKS RS is a comprehensive, customizable online curriculum management system that helps districts and teachers plan and deliver instruction aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

In addition to the TEKS Resource System, TCMPC also supports Texas Curriculum Resources (TCR) and Bluebonnet Learning materials. These provide educators with additional instructional resources and curriculum tools that enhance teaching and learning across Texas classrooms.

What is TCMPC?

  • TCMPC refers to the Organization.
  • TEKS Resource System (TEKS RS) refers to the Product.

What is the goal of TCMPC?

TCMPC’s goal is simple yet powerful: To provide Texas districts and educators with a high-quality, TEKS-aligned curriculum framework that promotes student success and instructional equity statewide.

The Components of the TEKS Resource System

TEKS Resource System (TEKS RS) is developed and maintained by TCMPC. TEKS RS is built around several key components that work together to support a coherent curriculum design. Each piece is carefully crafted to ensure alignment between standards, instruction, and assessment.

The main components of TEKS RS include:

  • Vertical Alignment Documents (VADs)
  • Year-at-a Glance (YAG)
  • Instructional Focus Documents (IFDs)
  • Assessment Items and Tools
  • Resources and Support Materials

Let’s examine each component and its functionality.

Vertical Alignment Documents

VADs illustrate how knowledge and skills build upon one another.

Vertical Alignment Documents (VADs) illustrate how knowledge and skills build upon one another from one grade to the next. They help teachers understand how the content develops across grade levels and provide a big-picture view of where their students are coming from and where they’re headed.

Purpose:

  • Identify prerequisite skills
  • Support vertical teams’ discussions
  • Ensure instructional coherence across grade levels
Year-at-a-Glance

The Year-at-a-Glance (YAG) is a pacing guide that outlines the suggested order and timeframe for teaching the units throughout the school year.

Purpose:

  • Provide a long-term planning overview
  • Help teachers and teams plan their instructional calendar
  • Support consistency across classrooms and campuses

Instructional Focus Documents (IFDs)

The IFDs are the heart of each unit. They unpack the standards and provide clarity about what students should know and be able to do by the end of the unit.

Each IFD includes:

  • The bundled standards (TEKS) for that unit
  • Clarification and specificity about the learning expectations
  • Guiding questions and unit understandings
  • Performance assessments aligned to the TEKS

Purpose:

  • Guide lesson planning
  • Clarify instructional intent
  • Support standards-based teaching
Assessment Items and Tools

TCMPC provides a large bank of formative and summative assessment items that align directly with the TEKS and unit content. Educators can utilize these items to develop campus- or district-level assessments that monitor progress and inform instruction.

Purpose:

  • Measure student understanding
  • Provide feedback for both teachers and students
  • Guide instructional adjustment
Resources and Support Materials

The TEKS RS also includes helpful tools and resources for teachers, such as content area materials, curriculum supports, and training opportunities through the ESCs.

Purpose:

  • Ensure that teachers are not only provided with curriculum frameworks but also receive the professional learning necessary to implement them effectively.

Why Educators Love TCMPC

Educators across Texas rely on TCMPC and the TEKS RS because they provide:

  • Clarity in understanding the TEKS
  • Consistency across classrooms and grade levels
  • Collaboration through shared language and tools

Ultimately, TCMPC empowers teachers to focus more on how to teach—not just what to teach.

Conclusion

TCMPC is the collaborative foundation that ensures every Texas educator has access to aligned, rigorous, and intentional curriculum support through the TEKS Resource System. Educators can utilize district-adopted textbooks and resources in conjunction with the TEKS Resource System. With structured components, it helps teachers do what they do best: design learning that supports all students in meeting and exceeding the standards.
