The Education Service Center Region 13 Educator Certification Program (ECP) is now accepting applications for the 2026-2027 school year. If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to start your journey toward becoming a certified Texas teacher, this is it! This article provides a detailed look at the three unique cohort models our program offers. Read more and choose the one that makes sense for you.

A Program to Fit Your Lifestyle

We know aspiring educators come from diverse backgrounds, locations, and learning preferences. That’s why our program offers three unique cohort models–so you can choose the one that best fits your lifestyle, schedule, and career goals.

No matter which cohort model you choose, you will:

  • Work with a dedicated Cohort Specialist who supports you from application to certification.
  • Complete the same high-quality coursework and performance-based assessments as all ECP candidates.
  • Gain the knowledge and skills you need to thrive in your classroom from day one.

The difference between cohort models lies in how the training is delivered. And, how you connect with instructors and peers.

ECP Cohort Options for 2026–2027

Structured In-Person Cohort

This cohort offers a highly structured and interactive learning experience with consistent face-to-face engagement. It models building strong connections, receiving immediate feedback, and following a clear routine.

  • Best For: Candidates who thrive in traditional classroom settings, benefit from structure and accountability, and can attend classes at ESC Region 13.
  • Format: Primarily in-person classes at ESC Region 13, supported by self-paced online modules, and occasional live Zoom sessions. Most coursework is completed before internship, with supplemental “just-in-time” sessions during internship.
  • Schedule: Live classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6:00–9:00 p.m., and Saturdays, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., when needed. The cohort specialists provide a specific schedule of in-person meetings. (See schedule.)
  • Certifications Offered: Elementary, Bilingual, Special Education, ESL, and Secondary.

Balanced Hybrid Cohort

This cohort model blends in-person learning with the flexibility of online coursework, offering the best of both worlds.

  • Best For: Candidates near ESC Region 13 who are self-motivated but value occasional face-to-face interaction and hands-on activities.
  • Format: A mix of self-paced online coursework and live classes at ESC Region 13 during In-Service. Coursework is split evenly before and during your internship, with “just-in-time” support along the way.
  • Schedule: Live classes held once a month on Saturdays during In-Service from 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. (See schedule.)
  • Certifications Offered: Secondary, ESL, Career & Technical Education (CTE).

Live Online Cohort

This cohort model is a fully remote option combining the flexibility of online coursework with the benefits of live virtual instruction and peer interaction.

  • Best For: Candidates across Texas who prefer the convenience of learning from home while still engaging in live discussions and collaboration.
  • Format: Self-paced online coursework plus live Zoom sessions during In-Service. Coursework is evenly split before and during your internship, with “just-in-time” sessions to support classroom challenges.
  • Schedule: Live Zoom classes occur once a month during In–Service on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (See schedule).
  • Certifications Offered: Elementary, bilingual, Special Education, Secondary, ESL, and CTE.
